Brandi M. Bennett

Brandi Bennett focuses on global privacy, data security, and AI compliance, as well as data breaches. Ms. Bennett has served as global privacy compliance counsel for Fortune 500 companies. She has advised companies of various sizes on privacy laws in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Oceania. She has built privacy compliance programs from the ground up. Ms. Bennett also advises clients on the development and deployment of AI tools, navigating AI, privacy, security, and other consumer protection issues, as well as emerging laws such as the European Union AI Act. Her certifications include the Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) certification and the Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP) certification.

In addition to her work for clients, Brandi has volunteered with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) on various privacy framework initiatives, and the Minnesota Department of Transportation as a privacy and cybersecurity expert on its commission on connected and autonomous vehicles to study future deployments.

Honors and Recognition

  • Served as lead interim privacy counsel for a Fortune 500 smart phone and consumer electronics manufacturer. Led the launch of consumer-facing AI tools globally, including as to all privacy and consumer protection counseling related to multiple AI models and evolving functionality. Oversaw privacy compliance relating to privacy laws of multiple states across the U.S. as well as U.S. Department of Justice privacy rules relating to China, including as to development of a parent/subsidiary joint AI initiative, and the deployment of targeted ads in first-party apps.

  • Represented a leading healthcare fintech company that administers consumer-directed benefits as to overall privacy compliance. Managed privacy issues relating to agreements for Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs), Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), Commuter Benefits, and more.

  • Led negotiations for Data Processing Agreements and security terms for Fortune 500 customers, as well as for strategic partnerships and key procurement deals, particularly those involving strategic data sharing.

  • Represented a global leader in AI-driven software testing as to compliance with both U.S. and international privacy laws in respect of training other legal counsel, drafting procurement processes and agreements, and creating playbooks and templates for data privacy and cybersecurity addenda.

  • Served as global privacy counsel for a media, communications, and automotive conglomerate, including as to privacy laws in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Latin America, and Asia. Managed privacy compliance relating to procurement process design and implementation, contests, and sweepstakes, as well as general compliance program design and development.

  • Represented one of the largest confectionary and snack manufacturers in the world in respect of global privacy compliance, covering U.S. privacy laws, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) governing the European Union, Asian privacy laws, and Latin American privacy laws, including as relates to AI procurement, marketing and advertising, and policy drafting.

  • Represented a public retail company in respect of global privacy counseling, covering the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), Canadian privacy laws, and Australian privacy laws, including as to Data Processing Agreements, data compliance playbooks, data compliance training, individual rights requests, and marketing/advertising.

  • Represented a leading online dating platform in respect of privacy counseling, covering the GDPR, including as to product design and redevelopment, design and development of Data Subject Access Requests systems, creation of Records of Processing Activities (ROPAs) systems, development of cybersecurity policies and practices, breach notifications systems, vendor management, and privacy compliance training for all staff.
